The Cougars’ method is no stranger to these controversy.
In 2019, College or university of Charleston settled a wrongful termination lawsuit with previous baseball mentor Matt Heath for $350,000.
The settlement finished almost two decades of legal wrangling amongst College or university of Charleston and Heath more than his firing by athletic director Matt Roberts.
Heath experienced a few yrs remaining on his deal that would have paid out him $450,000 when he was fired on June 23, 2017.
At the heart of the circumstance was Heath’s declare that he was fired by Roberts so that he could hire Holbrook, the previous head baseball coach at South Carolina and a near mate of Roberts dating to their days with each other at North Carolina.
Holbrook was hired as the Cougars head baseball mentor in July 2017.
At that time, Roberts and the university countered that Heath was fired for “just cause” for his alleged actual physical and verbal abuse of his players that designed a “toxic environment” for the two seasons he was the Cougars’ head mentor.
Heath denied the allegations and submitted his wrongful termination lawsuit in July 2017, just days after he was fired.
